    Program Overview:

This program promotes both mental and physical activity while enhancing the connection between the dog and handler. To qualify to earn a title, dogs should be a minimum of six months old and possess an official AKC registration, PAL, or AKC Canine Partners number. To earn a title at any level, the dog must successfully pass the test twice, judged by two different judges.

    The Four Title Levels

The program spans four progression levels, each assessing various skills, distances, and memory:

    • Novice (FTN): The dog observes as the handler throws a ball or bumper (at least 30 feet) through a series of four obstacles. The task involves three single retrieves (center, left, right), with the dog returning within two steps of the handler.
    • Intermediate (FTI): This level enhances the retrieve distance to 50 feet, encompassing eight obstacles. The dog is required to execute four single retrieves (center, left, right, and a repeated left or right) and return within one step of the handler.
    • Advanced (FTA): This introduces a blind retrieve where the dog cannot see the item being dropped (concealed behind a blind) and must react to signals from the handler.
    • Retriever (FTR): The most challenging level, featuring multiple retrieves (doubles and triples) that assess both memory and the dog's capability to follow hand signals in locating the bumpers.
