    If you love elements of chance, strategy, and high-energy teamwork, the UpDog Spaced Out event at DOG-O-RAMA is an absolute must-see!


    Spaced Out takes the classic game of fetch and turns it into a giant, fast-paced board game where a roll of the dice completely dictates the team’s strategy.


    Here is what makes this event so unique and exciting to watch:

    • The Roll of the Dice: Before the clock even starts, the human handler steps up to the head judge and rolls a six-sided dice. The number rolled determines which of the five specific throwing zones on the field the human must stand in for the entire round. (If they roll a six, they get "Player's Choice" and can pick their favorite spot!)
    • The Grid: The field is set up with four rectangular catch zones spaced out across the grass. The handler has 60 seconds to launch discs from their designated throwing spot into those target zones.
    • No Repeating: To keep things challenging, a team cannot score points in the same catch zone twice in a row. They must successfully throw to a different zone before returning to a previous one, forcing the handler to constantly alter their throwing angles and distance.
    • Hunting the "Spaced Out" Bonus: Every successful catch or ground roller in a target zone earns the team 5 points. If the duo manages to score a catch in all four distinct zones before the buzzer sounds, they yell "Spaced Out!" and trigger a massive 25-point bonus. Elite teams will try to clear the field multiple times in a single minute!
    • The Sweet Spot Finish: Just like other UpDog games, if the dog, handler, and a disc all make it back to the central "Sweet Spot" as time expires, they nab an extra 5-point buzzer-beater bonus.


    Why It's a Fan Favorite:

    Spaced Out is wildly unpredictable. Because handlers are forced into a throwing zone they might not have planned for, they have to adapt their strategy on the fly based on the wind, their dog’s speed, and their own throwing strengths. It is a fantastic showcase of precision throwing, canine agility, and split-second decision-making!
