  • DETAILS

Get ready for the ultimate showcase of creativity, athleticism, and showmanship! The UpDog Freestyle Showcase at DOG-O-RAMA takes the bond between a human and their dog and turns it into a choreographed, jaw-dropping routine set to music.

Unlike traditional "toss and fetch" games that rely purely on distance and speed, Freestyle is a performance art where teams are limited only by their imagination and safety boundaries.

    How the Freestyle Showcase Works:

    • Choreography to Music: Handlers pick their own family-friendly music track, designing a unique routine that matches the beat. Level 1 (beginner) teams get 105 seconds on the field, while Level 2 (advanced) teams get a full 135 seconds to show off their skills.
    • A Multi-Disc Masterclass: Teams can bring up to eight dog-safe discs onto the field. You will see rapid-fire transitions, complex disc management, and handlers juggling multiple discs in mid-air to keep the rhythm going.
    • The Judged Categories: A panel of judges grades the routine across independent categories:
    • The Human: Evaluates throwing accuracy, diversity of grips, creativity, and field placement.
    • The Dog: Looks at athletic drive, focus, control, and agility relative to their size.
    • The Team: Judges the overall flow, connection, synchronization, and communication between partner and pup.
    • Spectacular "Tricks": This is what brings the crowd to their feet! Teams incorporate high-flying maneuvers like vaults (the dog launching off the handler’s back or leg), overs (leaping over limbs to catch a disc), stalls (jumping and landing directly on the handler's body), and dramatic flips.
    • The Sweet Spot Bonus: Just when you think the routine is over, the clock stops and the team gets two untimed, final "bonus shots" from behind the starting line into the center square of the field (the Sweet Spot) for extra points.

Why It's the Crown Jewel of the Event:

UpDog Freestyle is pure entertainment. It feels less like a rigid sport and more like an athletic dance routine. You will see tiny 10-pound terriers twisting through the air right after a massive border collie clears a six-foot leap. It is an inspiring celebration of what is possible when humans and dogs truly learn to communicate and play together!
